Hello Blog Friends!
It has been a very long time since we had a Wednesday Words Post but I thought it would be cool to put up these photos and a few reflections from our recent Day Camps Cook-Along.
For Season Two we chose a theme around Thanksgiving recipes and traditions. In retrospect the Day Camp Committee has realised that perhaps the timing (late September-early October) was not the best since everyone, and especially families with school age children, is super busy juggling full schedules after a summer break. Because of this we did have a smaller turnout, although we still welcomed campers and their families from 3 provinces and all in all 18 individuals, small people and adults, took part.
Week 1 Chef Jessica taught us how to make her delicious “Herby Cheddar Scones”. They were a bit hit and I know that I will be making them myself this autumn.
Week 2 Chef Victor shared his very tasty recipe for Butternut Squash Soup, which made an ideal combo with our scones
Week 3 Chef Syndi-Belle brought us her wonderful Easy Apple Pie. What is Thanksgiving Dinner without a pie? And this one was a big success 😊
Many thanks to all our volunteer Chefs as well as the three tech support people- Mae Anne, Jillian & Gillian, all of whom are DC Committee members and gave of their time to see that the Google Meets ran smoothly .
Thanks also to our Campers who participated and to their Mums and siblings who joined in and also got to taste the delicious results as well as cleaning up some quite messy kitchens!
Everyone was asking – “when will we do it again?” so the DC committee is already discussing Season Three, which we hope to launch over the winter. There will be lots of advertising and we will be keeping in touch with all the participants.
As Sandrine, one of our small cooks said – “I LOVE to cook with other people!!!” and so do we 😊.
