The coming weekend is set up to outdo all previous “crazy busy” weekends so I’m making a start on this post in the short time (I think) I still have before the arrival of the Huyer family (2 adults, three children- my Godsons) who are staying through until Sunday evening in order to attend various CTM events. But let’s give a synopsis of the past week before further explanations!
The “Maple Keys” season has arrived in Montreal; millions, possibly billions of dried keys are falling from the trees all over gardens, decks, porches & driveways etc. This season always coincides with the need to spend hours praying for Day Camp miracles. Usually this means TEAM MEMBERS and this year is no exception. I asked the Lord if he could possibly send me 3 more Team this week, but sadly I guess my timing is off, because no more Team Members have applied.
As far as our Church Schedule goes we only have 2 vacant slots on the chart-Week 1 for a local or “anything between here and Toronto” location and Week 3 for the Team which is doing the first 2 weeks in Alberta and the 4th Week in Saskatchewan. Maybe someone reading this Blog has suggestions
for any of the above crises?? Please leave a comment! I’ll be sure to check back !
So all week I have been raking and sweeping and praying, that is when it wasn’t raining or dark or I wasn’t hunched over the keyboard badgering potential Team Members. Sometimes the life of a Day Camp Director can be a weensy bit discouraging.
In other news the baking has continued for the invisible people who I’m praying will materialise in time to eat the food at the Team Training Retreat. An order has also been placed for ingredients for 3 main course dishes that will be made ahead and frozen next week. Jessica and I have planned another “supply packing” session, plus a Team Leader’s Binders session, and Jillian has booked herself in for “minion work” next Friday.
The Huyers will all be going to a SYC Staff Brunch tomorrow morning and I am on duty looking after my Godsons while the staff meeting takes place in the afternoon. At present my plan is to complete this post sometime in the morning.
Sunday Reflections will probably appear next Monday since, as well as church with the Huyers Sunday morning we have the CTM AGM in the afternoon and then they will come back for High Tea before heading off to the cottage they have rented in the Eastern Townships.
Besides raking, sweeping and mowing and the attendant mess, the flowerbeds are in full bloom now with a wide variety of perennials and my herb garden is also growing apace. Once we get over the maple key season it should be smoother sailing until the Autumn.
No time for sewing anything this week although I’m about to launch into making Tighe’s birthday crown as my other Godson turns 3 in late June. Photos upon completion! And the cotton tank top I have been knitting is almost done, but the edging still has to be completed.
One hot evening this week I made a really tasty salad for dinner and since we are entering the Salad Season I thought I would share the recipe
Feta and Melon Salad
- ½ a ripe honeydew melon, cubed
- 1 cup pea shoots
- 4oz Feta cheese, crumbled
- 1 red pepper, julienned
- ½ cup toasted almonds
- ½ a red onion, slivered
- 2 Tbsps. Olive Oil
- 2 Tbsps. Red Wine Vinegar
- 1 tsp. finely grated lemon rind
- salt and pepper to taste
On a shallow serving dish, arrange the peashoots and top with the melon cubes, onion, peppers and crumbled Feta. In a small bowl, whisk together the oil, vinegar, lemon rind and pepper and salt. Sprinkle with toasted almonds. Serve immediately with a loaf of crusty bread. Serves 1-2, easily doubled.
