“One of Us” |
When I was pondering what title to give this week’s post I first thought of “Hopes and Dreams”. At this time of year I am looking forward more than backward . I still have one foot in Day Camps 2011 as I am working all out to finish the 30 Parish Feedback Forms but my other foot ( the “lead” foot) is firmly planted in Day Camps 2012.And since Day Camps 2012 will be the Program “One of Us” I do frequently find myself humming Christmas Carols, hence the switch from “Hopes and Dreams” to ” Hopes and Fears” ( see Oh Little Town of Bethlehem…”!!).
Actually the title does really sum up a lot about this time of the Day Camp year.
People are always saying to me…”You must be SO glad that Day Camps is over!”
Over? OVER???
Day Camps is NEVER OVER!!!!!
Whereas it is quite true that the Teams are no longer “In the Fields” and, yes, the whole flock has departed for warmer climes and fresher grass, Day Camps, just like the larger, Liturgical year is never ending but runs in a continuous loop or cycle, there is always something new to think about.
As I dabble in designing a PromoFlyer for 2012 or as I begin to read through the “One of Us ” Manual and flag areas where we will want to look at refreshing and upgrading various aspects of the Program, I guess it is fair to say that this is the time of year for “Hopes and Fears”

I am hopeful, as always ,that our small ministry will continue, by God’s grace, to reach out and touch many lives NEXT Summer, and I am fearful that ,once again, there will be a gut wrenching struggle to locate each Team Member we need to form our Teams, that enough Churches and Communities, in the “right” geographic areas will choose to apply to host Camps. I’ m also fearful, on a more personal level, that I am never doing enough on my own part as God’s hands and feet, to make all this happen.
But most of all I do feel the hopeful stirring excitement, of setting out on a new journey, eager to take the path which God is laying out for all of us on the Day Camp Committee. Proud to have been a part of what we have all accomplished this Summer and ready to plunge BOTH feet ( as soon as those 30 forms are done!!) into seeking that very best path for 2012.
In order to fuel all those creative juices, and on a less esoteric note, I’m also happy to share the salad recipe I made tonight, bursting with all sorts of mind strengthening vitamins and minerals I offer you…
