Pentecost 2

Hello Blog Friends!

This post comes to you super late, as I have had an extremely long day at our annual Diocesan Synod. I have been writing bits of it since yesterday morning and tried to finish up during the breaks in the Synod proceedings but kept being interrupted by people asking various questions. So here is a rather disjointed reprise of the week just passed 😊…

Last Sunday afternoon we held the CTM Board Meeting. It was the first meeting for Pippa who was elected at our AGM as co-Director of Junior Youth Camp. Pippa has already held many roles at CTM – Day Camp Camper & Team Member, Leader, Training Leader, Committee Member, Senior Youth Camp Camper and Staff Member, Junior Camp Staff Member and Focus Weekend attendee (that’s where she met her husband!!). She was also office secretary and thus my assistant for 3 years. Another of her claims to fame is that she is mother to one of my four Godsons, Tighe, so we are (almost) family😊 . All of which is to say that she is a welcome addition to the Board.

Monday I got up extra early to make a start on garden work before my weekly Zoom meeting with my close friend Michelle in the UK. It was a blessing I was outside at that time as my neighbour, who rents my driveway to park her car came up to get into it and I could see she looked upset. She told me she was on the way to the hospital as she had just received a call from the doctors to say her father was dying. I asked if I could pray for her and her family and she accepted and so, standing there with my garden rake I prayed over her, gave her a hug and sent her on her way. The rest of my gardening time offered me more space to keep the situation in prayer. That day I also typed up the Board minutes and sent them off to the President so he could approve them for circulation.

Tuesday I FaceTimed with former Day Camp committee member and puppeteer Anna, who now lives in Nova Scotia. It was good to hear how she and her family are doing and to talk about her son’s First Communion, which I had “attended”, online two Sundays ago. After our chat I got back to emailing and texting Alumni to remind them of the upcoming Team Gathering J, then got down to more blog post editing. I recently discovered that I will need to go back right to 2011 and reroute to WordPress any of the links that still go to back to older Blogger posts as the “Lamb on Day Camps” blog will eventually be deactivated, AGH!!!  This is very discouraging but people cannot be left to click on a series of non-functioning links, sigh. Late that afternoon Jillian came for an after-school visit and she caught up on all things Day Camps while I heard about all the end of term activities at the school where she teaches English as a second language. We also sat at the dining room table and made a start on my Moomin jigsaw puzzle, which for the second year, I have saved as a summer time activity 😊.

Wednesday I continued Badgering for the Team Gathering and also spent a bit more time discussing, with Jessica the thoughts she has around grant applications. I’m not quite clear as to how we should get started on the task but we have arranged to meet next week, or possibly the week after, to lay some groundwork.

Thursday was more slogging away at post editing as I hoped to complete   all the 2015 posts this week, but only made it to November!

Then yesterday morning I cleaned up all the emails on my Inbox, went on with the editing, and started my weekly baking, since is obvious I couldn’t bake bread today 😊.

Afternoons I managed to squeeze in the making of a braided bracelet for my eldest Godson, William. I found out on Monday that he is being Confirmed tomorrow morning, and since his father, Timothy, is currently looking after Thomason he will be able to act as courier, taking the little packet back to Ottawa this evening and delivering it to him at church on Sunday. Apart from a bit of progress knitting the first of a pair of pink socks destined as a Christmas gift, there has not been an opportunity for any crafting although I have a couple of projects planned for next week 😊…

It is now 830pm and I am finally alone with Thomason, having said good-bye with profuse thanks, to Timothy who is now on the road back to Ottawa. Synod started this morning with registration at 8am and finished with an Episcopal Blessing at 6pm. All day I was at my post as Lay Secretary, typing the Minutes of the proceedings whilst helping to orientate the new Clerical Secretary, Ben, who was full of questions. I think I will enjoy working with him, but it has been quite a long day! Tomorrow I need to be up by 6am as we plan to hold the Pod extra early since I am going to watch the livestream of William’s Confirmation and it starts at 1030am. Also at roughly 10 am my friends Sarah and Alexander are going to stop by on the way to their church because it is their son Owen’s first birthday and I have a gift made for him.

So I think it is high time to close off with our recipe. Yesterday, in anticipation of Timothy being with me for breakfast this morning, I made a batch of (the suitably named 😊) Company Muffins.

Company Muffins

  • 1/2 cup unbleached flour
  • ½ cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • ¾ cup turbinado sugar
  • 1 Tbsp. cinnamon
  • 2 tsps. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 2 large apples, shredded
  • 1 ½ cups shredded carrots
  • 1 cup flax seed meal
  • ½ cup raisins
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • ½ cup milk
  • ¼ cup sunflower oil

Combine the first 8 ingredients in a large bowl and stir well. Add the next 4 ingredients and stir to coat. Finally whisk together the last 3 ingredients, make a well in the dry mixture, pour them in and stir just enough to moisten everything. Place parchment liners in muffin tins and fill ¾ full. Bake for 18 mins. in a preheated 375ºF oven. Makes 18 large muffins.
