Hello Blog Friends!
Here is a bonus post about the Lenten Study Program for Team alums, which was held on the past 3 Saturday afternoons.
When we started talking at the Day Camp committee about doing something special for our alums as we journey through the season of Lent I remembered a video series I had watched a couple of summers ago at The Pod (the little house church that I coordinate). The series is called “Artful” and each episode features two visual artists who are people of faith and throughout the series each artist shares how faith impacts their art. I suggested we could watch one of these videos during each session of our program and then do an “Art as Prayer” intention in which we would express a prayer concern using art materials that echoed the medium used by an artist in the video.
After a couple of planning meetings with another member of the DC committee we came up with a schedule and started advertising the program among the alum community.
By the time we held our first session we had 14 participants signed up to take part, although several of them couldn’t actually be with us on Saturday afternoons they still wanted to follow along on their own time.
The three sessions had an average of 6-7 participants at the Google Meets and everyone seemed interested in exploring the concept of Art as Prayer. For each episode we first watched a video together then used scriptures referenced by each artist as touch points for our own prayers. After working individually offline we regrouped and shared the pieces we had created along with our own reflections before closing in prayer,
Last Saturday when the third session came to an end I was rather sad that we had only scheduled three episodes! Maybe we can plan another series later this year to dig deeper into the “Artful” videos and our own responses in Art as Prayer 😊.
