It is looking pretty bleak and “Novemberish” around here. The leaves are almost all down from the trees and each day I’m racing against time to get everything raked up before the first snow!We heard yesterday that there is already a buyer for the Isaiah 40 building so we are also racing against time to empty our supply room there.Fortunately the closing date is not until March 1st 2019 but no one wants to move large objects in the winter months so we are committed to getting the job done by the end of November.Wednesday afternoon Mikaela and I worked for 2 hours, sorting the contents of many tubs and boxes and creating a bunch of piles around the walls of the room, each pile for a different destination. Next Thursday Jessica (the official “Supply person” on our committee) is available and we will meet over there so that she can analyse the contents of the piles and make some final decisions before we begin moving stuff out. Staff members from Junior and Senior Youth Camp have also begun emptying out their sections of the shelving so we are all making good progress.

I have also spent a lot of time this week on the reworking of content for our Planning Guides. We are doing some serious restructuring of the Guides as well as the Program Manual. Anna is currently focusing on the new “Community Guide” and Jessica on the new “Travelling Team Guide”. I have been assigned the task of creating a new “Program Chapter”, which will include introductions to every element of the Daily Day Camp Schedule. The first draft is 14 pages long, which is rather appalling but hopefully some earnest editing can reduce it down at least a bit!

Outside of the Day Camps world, I completed the baby sweater I was knitting as a gift for a young couple who work at our local organic grocer and are expecting their first child. I made a fabric gift bag for it and took it to the store on Tuesday afternoon. Annie was very pleased with it and we exchanged good hugs all round 😊

Today I have been sewing a Christmas gift for one of my Godsons and a birthday present for his older brother.  For Tighe I’m making a “Lego mat” that can be drawn together into a big pouch for holding all those tiny Lego bits. For Malachi I’m making a case for coloured pencils and a matching sketch pad, Malachi loves to draw!

But before I head back to the sewing machine we also need a recipe. I did some baking on Tuesday afternoon and among the things I made were some very nice Honey Cornmeal Muffins. They make a great pairing with all the soup and chilli we are eating, as the weather gets colder 😊

Honey Cornmeal Muffins

  • ¼ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 ¼ cups milk
  • 1 egg
  • ¼ cup honey
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 3 tsps. baking powder
  • ½ tsp. salt
  • 1 ¼ cups flour

Line muffin cups with parchment liners and set aside. Preheat oven to 400º.In a large bowl whisk together the dry ingredients. Combine the wet ingredients in a medium bowl and whisk well. Blend the wet ingredients into the dry; do not over mix! Fill muffin cups and bake for 15-20 minutes. Makes 1 dozen muffins.
