Winter has arrived with a vengeance around here. Lots more snow this week and a power failure yesterday although today is a bit milder with nasty sleet, definitely January in Montreal!
The Program Manual is beginning to take shape, which is very exciting and last Monday Jillian spent the afternoon here and prepared a draft of our 2016 promo bookmark, which we will look at this coming Monday evening at our monthly committee meeting.
There was also a call from a Diocesan Youth Leader in Toronto to say that his region is once again interested in partnering with CTM to bring Day Camps to several Parishes. This is excellent news!
Sadly the SYC Camp Day has had to be cancelled due to low registration. We had been looking forward to giving a presentation there about joining Travelling Teams so it is disappointing both for all those on the SYC Staff who worked so hard to design a super event and also for a lost opportunity to recruit for Day Camps.
Tomorrow will be a very busy CTM day with a Junior Youth Camp planning meeting in the early afternoon, followed by a Board of Directors meeting and wrapping up the day with Crossroads Youth Service, whoa!! quite the marathon. The Huyers will be here for the day but we won’t have much chance to visit except over a quick supper between the Board Mtg. and Crossroads. I had hoped they would be here to stay the following weekend but now their SYC event isn’t happening they won’t be back for a while. It is hard being a long-distance Godmother!!
Outside of office time there has, of course, been plenty of shovelling to keep me busy.
I’ve finally completed my “Nori” cardigan. that I started last Fall and put on hold while knitting Christmas gifts. I’m really happy with it although I shall have to wait for warmer weather to really enjoy wearing it.
I also finished a dear little knitted bird and hope to stockpile
few of those to tuck into Easter Baskets this year.

Next I plan are to cast on a project with some lovely purple heather yarn given to me by one of the Team Leader’s who bought it while on Team in New Brunswick last Summer. I’m excited to brighten up the Winter with a new hat and maybe some legwarmers!!
Work is also underway on a quilt for a
friend who has recently given birth to a baby girl.

Then, of course there was a baking afternoon when I got to try out the new Canadian Wildlife cookie
cutters I received as a Christmas gift. I just LOVE the moose!!! These cookies are really good and lend themselves well to cutting in interesting shapes so

cutters I received as a Christmas gift. I just LOVE the moose!!! These cookies are really good and lend themselves well to cutting in interesting shapes so
here is the recipe: –
Chocolate Cinnamon Cutouts
- 1-cup whole-wheatflour
- 1 ½ cups white flour
- 1 cup Dutch process cocoa powder
- 2 tsps. baking soda
- 1 tsp. cinnamon
- ½ tsp. salt
- ½ cup butter
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp. vanilla
In a medium bowl whisk together the flours, cocoa, baking soda, cinnamon and salt. In a large bowl beat the butter with an electric mixer until fluffy. Gradually beat in the sugar then the egg and vanilla. With the mixer on low slowly beat in the flour mixture. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured board and roll out to ¼”, no thinner. Cut out shapes and reroll and cut the scraps. Place cutouts on parchment lined baking sheets and bake for 9-10 minutes in a preheated 375°F oven until firm. Watch they do not burn! Makes approximately 2 dozen cookies, depending on the size.
