Just time for a short reflection today, as 2 more Teams are on their way back to roost. So I need to make a couple of trips over to Isaiah 40 and in between Debbie’s sister Donna, will be dropping by to pick up a Team Leader’s binder, which will be handed off to Timothy’s Mum as she is meeting him at the airport tomorrow and is part of the special Team heading for Bagotville next weekend. Donna is also going to meet the flight so this was our plan to connect the Binder with the Team, as a Team certainly cannot function without the ubiquitous Binder! As you can see, things are still pretty busy around here.
It was a lovely sunny morning so there was no problem biking to church, although it was pretty hot and sticky. Today was Holy Communion so, as is my practice, I set up “shop” in the dining room area so we could move over there and have our activity during the Sermon time, the Prophet of the week being Habakkuk.
Having puzzled over this short book several times, I watched a couple of commentaries on YouTube and read and reread the last few verses in the book, these became the focus of our activity.
After reviewing the meaning of “Prophet” while eating bananas and drinking mugs of ice water, we discussed the last few verses, which seemed to give the idea that, no matter what happens to us, even if God seems very far away, or not even there, we still need to be trying to reach out and connect with Him.

Using a sheet each of white and black Bristol board, I cut long narrow strips of each. One end of the white strip was scored about 20cms down and on that section the children drew a picture of God. Then we bent the long black strip to form a “tunnel” and taped it to the white piece with (a LOT!!) of green tape. Each child was then given a white ping pong ball and drew their own face on that. They then rolled the balls through the tunnel to “connect” with God.
They enjoyed the activity and I hope by playing with the toy at home they will have a simple visual reminder of the essence of these verses.
We had a number of visitors at church, including an organist from the UK who played and sang a song for us right at the end of the Service, and a Priest and his wife who have just retired and are leaving the Diocese to live in New Brunswick
So after I few hurried goodbyes I biked home and am now about to dash off and meet Team 1, as they return from the Armed Forces Base at Richelieu….
