13/10/18

It has been a bit quieter around here over the past few days after all of last week’s activities!
Most of my office time this week was devoted to the Planning Guides and the 2019 Program Manual.    A couple of days ago our wonderful manual typist informed me that she will be out of the country for much of December and January and so would like to make a start on the 2019 Manual as soon as possible. In response to 2018 feedback from some host communities, the Day Camp committee is starting to look at ways to update this core document and contributing chapter editors/writers, normally have until December 31st to prepare their content. All of which means we will need to scurry if we are going to have copy ready to give to Arnee in the next month or so. AGH!!!! Deadlines can be scary.
I have been scrolling through Pinterest and checking a number of my own books looking for activities for two parts of the Main Presentation which is the first  section of the Day Camp day. Last summer we did some overhauling of the content but now we need new material that fits with the 2019 Theme for those slots in the schedule.
I’ve also been sending out agendas for 2 CTM Meetings happening next week-the Day Camp committee on Tuesday and the Board of Directors on Thursday. I’m really glad the committee meeting is coming up soon as we have SO MUCH to discuss.
Tuesday was a crazy hot day with a high of 27ºC. It happened to be Diocesan Council so I was able to bike downtown to the meeting, without even needing a sweater!! Of course one still knew it was fall since coming home it was already quite dark at 630pm, not the best without a bike light.😟
Thursday Jillian came for lunch. We are supposed to get together every second week but had not visited for the past 3 weeks, so it was lovely to catch up. Of course we talked “Day Camps” a lot but other topics too and after lunch we watched a cool video about a chef in Thailand (Jillian has Netflix, I don’t!!).
I’ve almost completed my trio of “fish hats” (Christmas gifts for Godsons) and am about to knit a sweet little pullover to give to one of the cashiers at our local Organic Grocer who is soon having her first baby. I’m going to make it in grey and white, since I don’t know if it will be a boy or a girl. 😊
As is frequently the case, I’m actually writing this on Friday morning, mostly because there is already a very long “to-do” list for tomorrow. I had hoped to be able to mow the lawns this afternoon  (probably the final mowing of the season) but the whole street outside is dug up for some unknown reason and it would be impossible to use my mower today. I’m REALLY hoping most of it is cleared up by tomorrow morning. This afternoon I shall still go out and try to do some raking but even that could be a challenge with large pieces of pipe all over the sidewalk outside the house. 😊
I was just interrupted by a friend who is giving a talk at a Quiet Day tomorrow taking place in our Cathedral. She needs some help to make the hand-out documents “prettier” so it looks as if I’ll be doing some cut & paste work before I can head out into the garden, perhaps we had better wrap up with this week’s recipe.
Last Wednesday I baked a Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie. There are lots of recipes around for skillet cookies, but being a dark chocolate lover I had to adapt one and think this has worked out pretty well. If you have a cast iron skillet do give it a try. 😊

Skillet Chocolate Chip Cookie
  • 6 Tbsps. butter or margarine
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • ½ cup cane sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ tsp. baking soda
  • ½ tsp. coarse sea salt
  • 1 cup bittersweet chocolate chips
Combine the butter and sugars and beat well with a wooden spoon. Stir in the egg and vanilla. Add the flour, salt and soda and stir well. Add the chocolate chips. Spread the dough evenly in a 10” cast iron skillet and bake in a preheated 350º oven for 18-20 minutes. Cool and cut into 8 wedges.
