Sunday Reflections-Lent 2

It is late to begin a post this evening but this is literally the first moment I have had to sit down and process the day!

As usual I was up early in order to be ready for a 9am ride with Nick. Cousin Ron from the UK called around 745 but I was still able to take a half hour walk with Wil and be home and ready for my lift.Once at St. Stephen’s there was plenty of set up to do, plus Pippa had asked me to look after her three children during the first part of the Service as Paul was leading worship at the piano. As we continue in our Lenten sermon series on Spiritual Disciplines today’s speaker, Jenna, had chosen to talk about “Hospitality”. She had sent me her texta couple of weeks ago so there was ample time to decide how to address the passage-1 Kings 17:8-16, the story of Elijah and the widow.

This video was well done and appealing to start our discussion after which we tiptoed down to the kitchen and made grill bread in an electric frying pan since it seemed prudent not to be too literal to the passage by lighting a twig fire for cooking! (much as I would have liked to!!)
As the breads cooked the children also drew some pictures to illustrate the story and at the time of the Peace we returned to join in the Eucharist.Although it was a very full and busy morning I was so happy to sit through both parts of the Service with a small child on my lap, feeling, for once truly connected to this church “family”. Administering the chalice reinforced that connection and the time was rounded off beautifully when Tanya offered me a ride home. Tanya and Joan and their son Nico are Tighe’s other Godparents, so we share that “family” relationship too! Apart from another perambulation with Wil, the afternoon was spent beginning the Changing of the Decorations and from 3pm on I was joined by Jessica, from the Day Camp committee who came to visit and have dinner. She was also a big help carrying clothing and linens up and downstairs until we stopped to cook our meal. As we were working on prep Brian came with my front doorknob to replace. Unfortunately the pieces did not come together properly so I still have my “falling off” knob and shall need to wait another week until he returns with a different part!
How blessed I am to be surrounded with so many people who help and encourage me on my daily journey. When I look back over this day I am overwhelmed by so much kindness and love, experienced. From the early morning phone call as dear Cousin Ron asked how I was getting on, to the special love and care shared at church, to Brian’s practical help and advice and to the companionship of Jessica, I end this day with deep thankfulness.
