Epiphany 7-2014

I’m starting this week’s post today since tomorrow I shall be attending the funeral, which I wrote about last Saturday.
The week began with the monthly Day Camp Committee meeting. It was a somewhat chaotic evening. One member never appeared, one member sent a text to say she would be an hour late, one member tried, unsuccessfully, to find a good parking space ahead of the snow removal crews and had to leave in a big rush to rescue her car from possible towing, and, not being able to find a safe place, never returned!
So what with Wil bouncing around every time the door opened, we had quite a lively time!
The Italian Sausage Risotto, made in a slow cooker proved successful and was just right on a cold evening, and the spiced Semifreddo with ginger cookies also went down well.Fortified by dinner, we were able to cover plenty of Day Camp territory, despite the numerous interruptions. We got to watch a short preview video of the Slideshow puppets, which was most exciting. We looked at the potential host churches and discussed how we can strategise to form 6 Teams again this Summer after having to drop to 5 last year. To date, we have 14 host churches pencilled in and have received Application Forms from 4 of those. If we send out 6 Teams we need a total of 27 churches and communities, so we still have a long way to go, but it is early days yet!
…Well right there I had to stop writing because Wentworth (the Techie person on our CTM Board) arrived bearing the new office smartphone. Now I’m not really a “smartphone” sort of person. It took me ages to figure out the workings of the previous phone and here we are upgrading already. Wentworth left after about an hour of complex tutorial, most of which I found it hard to concentrate on as I had not yet had my dinner and it was sitting getting cold in the kitchen (remember I do not have a microwave!)Anyway, after he left I ate a bit of lukewarm food and crashed into bed.
         ….
Back to the week just ending!

Tuesday I did a bunch of follow-up as a result of the meeting and also worked on Manual editing, then Wednesday was “Wednesday Words” Day so I posted  the article by our CTM President, I hope everyone reads it!!
Thursday I assembled the Prayer Concerns and sent them out to our Prayer Support Group. That evening I also cooked moose for the first time, and it was yummy!
Then yesterday morning Jill came and was able to get a timely “Committee” update from me in return for a“Youth Group Leadership” update from her! (We also discussed knitting, sewing, quilting and the pros and cons of my starting an Etsy Shop in my spare time, ha ha) A fruitful visit!
And so this morning I rushed around, took Wil for a horribly slithery walk (all the sidewalks froze overnight and yesterday it rained in torrents all day), and caught a 10am bus to go down to St. George’s for the Funeral.Unfortunately I took the wrong exit from the Metro station and, once I had surfaced from the catacombs, had to walk several blocks to the church. But it was not as slippery downtown and the sun was shining so it was rather nice.
So was the Service. Mr. Cane was 99 years old and died knowing the Lord and trusting in Him, but it still is terribly sad for his widow of 67!! years and for the rest of the immediate family.
My totally favourite movie is Chariots of Fire and I felt just as if I was in the first scene as we all sang “Jerusalem”! It was sort of like stepping back in time as a number of people from the early days of Crosstalk Ministries were in attendance and, of course, St. George’s was where we held Crossroads (our monthly Youth Service) throughout Brett’s tenure as Rector. Crossroads still meets there, albeit in the Parish Hall nowadays rather than the Church proper. This afternoon, after a quick bite of lunch and another Wil Walk I have been making Squash Ravioli( for tonight’s dinner) and Lemon Curd. Since the making of pasta dough and the assembling of Ravioli might be a bit complex for the weekly Recipe, the Lemon Curd is going to get a write up.

This is the Season for all things citrus, so do make some, it is so quintessentially British and thus makes a fitting end to a day on which one has sung Jerusalem!!
Lemon Curd
  • 2 Large Lemons
  • 2oz. butter
  • ½ lb. sugar
  • 3 eggs

Grate the peel from both lemons and extract all the juice. Place the peel and strained juice in the top of a double boiler. Add the butter and heat over medium-low until the butter is melted.Add the sugar and continue stirring until it is dissolved. In a small bowl, beat the eggs and then pass through a strainer into the double boiler. Continue stirring until the mixture is thickened. Pour into clean dry jars and store in the fridge. His will keep for several weeks providing no one discovers it and slathers it over their toast or scones!
