Saturday, Jan. 5th.......
It is bright and cold here this morning and I have been scurrying around getting ready for the Epiphany Team Gathering, taking place here this evening. I’ve baked my Gallette (a traditional French Epiphany Cake) and prepared a large pot of hot-spiced lemonade. I’ve put down the giant floor mat and a pile of boot trays, in preparation for many very large, snowy boots, and I just received an email saying the PowerPoints are ready to roll!! So, barring a flash snowstorm, I think I’m as ready as possible
Despite the Office being officially closed this week there has been a fair amount of activity, especially around the Team Gathering, “who is bringing what” etc. I have also been sending out reminders to those who are editing and rewriting Program Manual Chapters, as the deadline is January 15th. It usually requires a bit of badgering to get people to submit their documents and there is a whole lot of typing involved in the next phase of preparing the Manual so we need to keep on track with the time-line!
Now I need take down the Christmas Tree Quilt from over the sofa, as that is where we project our songs, and after that I think I will be ready for a house full of young people! There will be one very young person tonight, as Jill will be bringing 6-month old Owen. I understand he had just begun to crawl so, combined with all the Team Members, a very large and boisterous dog and a small curious cat, I think it will be quite an evening!!
Tomorrow I shall add a report on tonight’s activities so I’ll close for now and wrap this up at some point on Sunday. Since the hot lemonade is always popular, I’ll include the recipe as this week’s culinary offering……
Hot Spiced Lemonade
- 9 cups water
- 1 cup lemon juice
- 2 cups orange juice
- 1cup sugar (or to taste)
- 1 tsp. vanilla extract
- Pinch of ground cloves
Place all ingredients in a large, non-reactive pot and heat, stirring, until sugar is dissolved.
Makes approx. 12 servings.
Unused portion keeps well in the fridge so you can reheat a mug whenever someone wants a warming drink!
Monday Jan. 7th....
All my plans to get this post up yesterday were just a tad ambitious as I ended up spending about 10 hours working like a beaver to take down all the Advent/Christmas decorations ( including the Tree!!!) and to start replacing them with the Epiphany/Winter ones (pictures of that next week).
So here it is Monday, and the day began with the daily hour of shoveling, we sure are getting plenty of snow this year.
The Gathering went very well, with 14 people present, plus the previously mentioned boisterous dog and curious cat!
The music was super with a trio playing guitar, uke and drum. So the carol singing was exuberant, followed by sharing of Christmas stories, and Jill read Journey of the Magi by T.S. Eliot, a favourite of mine.
I shall add the photos and get this up pronto, and then back to hanging Winter wreathes and sewing on endless cushion covers!!!
