It sure is good to be Home! All day ,today, I’ve been running around putting things straight in the house and garden and sort of reclaiming this space for the Ministry God has given me to exercise in the Weeks ahead.


 One week ago,today, we were all just settling in at our  Isaiah 40 Foundation Retreat site. The Team Members were getting acquainted in their first Small Group sessions and I was preparing the first of 17 meals for 22 people!
       And now the one week of the year for which, in one way or another, I plan on all the other 51 weeks, is over!
       It was a good Retreat. We received 9 out of 14 Feedback Forms  and all of them were very positive so it seems that on some level we must have met the needs of those present. My prayer now is that we have done everything possible to equip these young adults as they head out into “The Fields” and exercise the Ministry to which they have been called, this summer.

We all know that a picture is worth a thousand words and these pictures. taken by some of the Team Leaders, give a flavour of the week. I understand there are many more and we will make a special Retreat slide show later on in the summer but ,for now I hope that this small collection will help you to feel a part of this amazing week!

    Our Worship Director, Timothy, did a superb job in choosing music. I loved singing “Days of Elijah” and “Come Thou Fount” during Evening Worship. He also pulled together a great Worship Team for the Commissioning Service We were saddened when, at the last moment, we heard from Bishop Barry that he would not be able to Commission the Teams due to his wife being ill. Our prayers are with them at this time.
        The Rev. Linda Faith, President of CTM was, fortunately, able to juggle her schedule and make it over to join us in time to conduct the Service and we were delighted to have the new Coordinator of Youth Ministries for the Diocese of Montreal-Mark Dunwoody (newly arrived form Cork, Ireland!) preach the Homily,(we really loved his accent!!!)
          And now, the 6 Teams are all settled in their first Churches getting ready to start Day 1 of Week 1 tomorrow morning. 3 of the 6 Leaders have already called in to let me know how things are shaping up.
          Of course, the travel did not go smoothly for everyone!! Team 6 have (temporarily I pray!!) LOST the Supply Tub. They travelled overnight, last night to Moncton, by bus, and somewhere ( possibly Riviere de Loup??) the tub did not change buses!!!!
         Several Team members left various personal items behind at the Retreat Centre, but those of us who did the major clean up have put said items in the Supply Room.
        Meals were pretty popular at the Retreat so I’m quite at a loss to decide which recipe to offer this week. No matter what I choose, I will certainly have to cut down the quantity!! as all the dinners I prepared were for 22 hungry young adults!!!
        Since it seems to be pretty hot just about everywhere in July I think I will share the….

Cold Noodle Salad

  • 1 pkg. brown rice noodles, cooked, drained  and  cooled according to package directions.
  • 3 boneless  chicken thighs
  • 1 Tbsp. minced ginger root
  • 2 garlic scapes, chopped
  • 3 white, Japanese turnips. cut into sticks
  • 2 medium carrots ,cut into sticks
  • 1 head bokchoy, well washed and cut,cross-wise, with the core removed and the leaves cut into 1 inch pieces
  • 4 Tbsp Tamari Soy Sauce
  • 1Tbsp brown sugar
  • 4Tbsps. Veg. oil
  • 1 fresh green chili, finely minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro leaves
Place chicken in a sauté pan, add 1cup water, garlic scapes and minced ginger. Bring to a simmer and cook until no longer pink, remove from liquid. Cool chicken and broth separately. Shred chicken.
Place bokchoy in a shallow serving dish. Layer on noodles,turnip and carrots.
combine soy sauce, brown sugar,vegetable oil, chillies and cooled broth, stirring until sugar is dissolved. Drizzle dressing over salad and toss gentle. Garnish with chopped cilantro. Serves 6
